Why This Spyder
The previous owner thought the car was nearly perfect, but missing one thing – 918 Carbon Bucket Seats. So he hunted down a set and had them installed.
It also benefits from Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes, which are truly something to behold. Unlike some ceramics, they don’t need to be hot before giving you confidence; they’re simply always there.
The car has a full Porsche and Porsche specialist JZM service history and has just had a full service completed by JZM, meaning it isn’t due again until 2028.
Its condition is testament to its previous custodians. Most people assume it’s on an older private plate and can’t believe it’s actually a 2015 car.
But being a 2015 car is exactly what makes it so special.
A Love Note to the 981 Spyder
Nothing gets in the way of the soundtrack as the rev counter heads towards 9,000rpm. Get a downshift right and occasionally you’re rewarded with a little crack on the overrun – no false pre-mapped nonsense, just the engine giving you a nod for getting it right.
Then there’s the showstopper – the stick in the middle.
What a gearbox. The way it springs from second to third almost encourages you to give it a little more. It’s precise, mechanical and beautifully weighted, while the clutch has enough feel without requiring an F1 driver’s left leg.
The steering is quick and precise, but it’s the engagement that stays with you. You feel connected to the road, even noticing changes in the tarmac beneath you.
In my opinion, this is THE best open-top sports car this side of a £250k 458 Spider or £300k 991 Speedster. It makes you feel like you’re at 10/10ths, with the steering, gearbox, brakes and chassis all coming alive around you.
